Application 7: how to mask the side rear wing with Chicane

01.02.2018

The patented Chicane tape was designed by MIARCO to improve the vehicle masking process, which is especially difficult on certain parts of the vehicle such as the bonnet, doors, and the boot, especially if they have rubber seals.

One of the parts on which Chicane is especially effective in terms of masking is the rear wing. A step-by-step guide to the application process is shown below.

Steps to be followed prior to applying Chicane tape

Clean and dry the surface you need to work on, before you apply Chicane masking tape. Once it is clean, use the pre-cut lines to tear off the amount of Chicane tape you need. Remember that the pre-cut lines are marked every 20 centimetres so it is easy to tear off the right amount. If you need to mask smaller areas, cut the tape with a Stanley knife.

How to apply Chicane on the side rear wing

The first step to applying Chicane tape on the rear wing is to peel the protective strip off the narrow part of the tape, and stick it down on the inside. Make sure the centrally reinforced section sits on the edge of the door frame. Here’s a piece of advice. When you are working on curved areas, make relief cuts in the tape using the pre-cut lines to reduce stress and make the application easier.

When the tape is in position, peel the protective strip off the wide part of the tape, pull the tape and stick it down on the outside.

How to mask the back light

The rear wing also includes the back light. Applying Chicane on this part of the vehicle is slightly different. To mask the back light, tear off the narrow part of the tape, as shown in the photo, and use the centrally reinforced section and the wide part.

Then insert the reinforced section between the light and the wing and slide the tape along the wing. Repeat this process until the entire back light has been masked. Once the tape is in place, peel off the protective strip and stick the tape down.

You can mask the bottom part of the wing in the same way. When you reach this part, peel the protective strip off the narrow part of the tape and insert the reinforced section and the wide part of the tape, as you did with the back light. Once the tape is in position, peel the protective strip off the wide part of the tape, pull the tape and stick it down on the outside. Repeat this process until the entire area has been masked.

As you can see, the application of Chicane tape varies slightly on this part of the car, yet it is still a simple process with three important advantages:

  • It saves time, reducing masking time by up to half.
  • It saves materials, as we have masked the entire vehicle and have replaced plastic sheeting, masking tape and foam tape with just one product.
  • Excellent finish, preventing paint from getting inside the vehicle and blending cut-off lines to make them invisible.

With MIARCO’s Chicane tape, masking is quicker, more precise and more efficient. Join the revolution!
